3 Physical Changes You Should Be Aware of During Pregnancy

Becoming a new parent is a lot to take in, especially for the mother. You may be thinking of the financial shifts and attitude changes you as a couple will need to adapt to in order for the new life to have a perfect home. However, among these changes, the woman will also be going through her own physical transformation that can be overwhelming if not understood. Here’s what to keep in mind.

Skin

People often talk about the pregnancy “glow”. While you may not realize it at first, this is actually a benefit to pregnancy. The combination of oils in the skin and increased blood flow throughout the body make young moms appear radiant. This is amazing and marks one of the positive transformations you’ll find in pregnancy.

 

You may notice some changes in the pigmentation of your skin as well. Particularly in regions with exceptional hormone activity, you may see a darkening of the skin. This is nothing to be afraid of and is perfectly natural.

Teeth

On a completely separate note, it’s time to look at your dental health! According to Stellar Kids Dentistry, the hormones produced during pregnancy can weaken the bones and ligaments in your mouth, which may slightly loosen your teeth. This can be a huge issue, and for people with naturally frailer bone density, may prove exceptionally problematic.

 

During this time of your life, it is important to follow every dental practice to a tee. Brush your teeth twice a day and make sure to floss. While it may seem impossible, avoid eating foods and drinking sodas that contain high amounts of sugar.

Weight Gain

Perhaps the most obviously expected change is rapid weight gain. Creating a baby requires a lot of energy. According to Bloomlife, women who have an average or below-average BMI should expect to gain almost 40 pounds! Because of this, you are going to have to learn to adapt to the extra weight.

 

While it can be hard, try not to think about your weight too much during this time. You are pregnant, you need to give yourself a break. However, having a plan after pregnancy can help you get back to tip-top shape! Don’t be ashamed of your motherhood. Embrace it!

 

Remember, your body is going to change a lot in a short amount of time. But don’t let that get you down! Make sure you are doing what you can to maintain your health, and don’t get caught up in discouragement associated with your body. These changes happen to everyone.
