Like many of the kiddos we see, this little guy has been through so much! When Arturo was just 9 months old they started going to doctor appointments all the time. They were hardly ever home, and the doctor’s office and ER was their “second home”. They went to neurology, genetics and visited the ER 4-5x a month and every test came back negative. He was constipated since birth, taking Miralax daily. Arturo would go 2-3 weeks constipated, and he would cry when it came time to go to the bathroom because it was so painful. He experienced frequent ear infections, RSV and dehydration. Arturo was never sick-free for more than two weeks. Their family was afraid to go out, because even a simple walk when it was breezy would turn into a fever spike and a cold! After all of those hospital stays and doctors visits, they still didn’t know what was wrong or how they could help him! They felt like they had exhausted all of their resources, and didn’t know what else there was.

One day Arturo’s mom received a Facebook message from a friend saying “I’ve been bringing my daughter to a great chiropractor, and I really think it could help him!” Since her friend had nothing to gain from sharing their experience, her interest was sparked! She checked out our Facebook page and website, and saw that we specialize in helping kiddos with special needs. Everyone seemed to be afraid to try and help special needs kiddos, so it really drew her in that we were experienced in helping these kiddos!

On their initial visits when Dr. Mike went over the scans and said that he had found something and could help, she took a sigh of relief. They FINALLY found something! Never in the last 3 years did they have any test come back with results that they could actually do something with to help Arturo! Mom says that “this was our missing puzzle piece!”

They have seen so many amazing changes in the last couple months being under care. Arturo hasn’t been to the doctor AT ALL since starting care. Before, they couldn’t go anywhere without him getting sick. Now they can take walks, he can play with his sisters, he can go to school and he doesn’t get sick every time like he did before. He can be a KID! He’s gone from waking up every night between 12-3 am, to sleeping through the night! After his first 3 weeks of care, Arturo started pooping daily with no Miralax! His constipation is now few and far between! He has more energy, and mom says he just acts more alive!!

“Preslee had many many ear infections. She had burst ear drums, tubes in her ears… and her body just wasn’t fighting infection well. “We started care at Congruent Life to help with reflux in our 2 month old. Nothing was working to resolve the problem at home, and his doctor didn’t seem concerned. Our little man would toss his entire bottle back up at times. We had to be overly cautious with where we went and fed him, and how we handled him after eating. “Our son Cody, at almost 10 years old, has faced more hurdles than most people do in a lifetime. We thought he was a healthy thriving baby until he seized in my arms for the first time at 8 weeks old. We saw a specialist immediately and he was admitted on continuous EEG monitoring. Our tiny, innocent baby was pumped full of medications to try and halt these episodes. Almost immediately he quit having obvious seizures but his EEG was showing non convulsive status. Meaning his brain was seizing non-stop but we couldn’t clinically see it. He became so sedated that he didn’t wake to eat and was put through a multitude of tests, lumbar punctures and brain scans. He was moved to intensive care and placed in a medically induced coma in hopes of resetting his seizing brain while more meds were added. Each time they tried to wean him from the coma the seizures returned. It was a devastating bleak situation and his future was not guaranteed. Doctors reached out to other doctors across the country to try and find a diagnosis and effective treatment. While still in the coma he was transferred by fixed wing jet to a different children’s hospital out of state to try an epilepsy drug that wasn’t FDA approved. Neurosurgeons there eventually removed the front left lobe of his brain. We were told that even though this area was the main driver, his seizures were multifocal and he would continue to deal with epilepsy. Not only were they right, but he also developed hydrocephalus as a result of the resection surgery causing even more damage to his already struggling young brain.

He has had 4 brain surgeries to date, mostly to treat hydrocephalus. We’ve tried many anti-epileptic drugs, ketogenic diet, CBD oil, he has a vagus nerve stimulator implanted in his chest and he still seizes nearly every day. He was eventually diagnosed with a rare multisystem genetic disease called Tuberous Sclerosis Complex and has many other manifestations of the disease as well. Life has been very much an uphill battle for him. We’ve done therapy at three different children’s therapy centers in addition to AEA services in our home and at school. We’ve taken him to children’s hospitals in four states seeking opinions from some of the best. While we have met amazing people and have gained something valuable from every therapy he has done. Many inch-stones have come and gone and he is still very much dependent on us for everything. Things he was successfully doing in his younger years; potty training, self-feeding and walking in a gait trainer for example have become harder as his brain and body have continued to fight against each other. In addition his spastic muscles have put tension on his bones and joints creating orthopedic problems that leave him facing a very real likely hood of major surgical intervention in his lifetime.

Like many parents of special children we have spent a lot of time and energy searching the web for resources. Finding hope in new treatments and connecting with other families keeps us moving forward. We found Dr. Mike through a video on Facebook that I randomly watched not even realizing it was about to connect us to someone that would be able to provide a very important missing piece in our journey. Cody’s body has been stuck in fight or flight mode literally all his life. He was born by c-section after a pregnancy that included a large subchorionic hematoma at 13 weeks and a head on motor vehicle accident at 32 weeks gestation. His body was likely stressed before his genetic condition even revealed itself. It’s so hard for any of us to function and grow when our brain and bodies aren’t working together and communicating like they need to.

We are only 5 months into his journey with Congruent Life but couldn’t feel happier with our decision to move forward with treatment. Cody is not verbal and is visually impaired but when he hears Dr. Mike’s voice he completely lights up. He trusts Dr. Mike and knows that he is helping him feel better. Just in the past month we have noticed an increase in his desire to communicate. His yes/no gesture is often times clearer and he’s showing more interest in his communication system. Though we still have discomfort issues, his legs and hips tend to be more relaxed than before. His core was so shut down that he was progressively developing scoliosis. The upper right section of his back was becoming humped and his posture was being affected. His scans have been showing that his core is reengaging, the hump is nearly gone and his spine is obviously straighter. Congruent Life has not made any unrealistic guarantees to heal or cure him of anything. However they have offered hope. Hope that balancing his nervous system will bring changes to his life. We trust and have seen that these changes make a difference in his quality of life. Our family feels so blessed to have added a doctor that genuinely wants to help our sweet boy and couldn’t ask for more!”

“Mason was born with severe Acid Reflux and has been on an adult dose of Prilosec since he was 10 months old. This made it very difficult for him to gain weight appropriately his first 2 years of life. Shortly after Mason turned 2 he was diagnosed with Celiac’s Disease and has since then struggled with severe constipation, in which he had to take Miralax daily. Mason was also diagnosed with arthritis so he has been dealing with joint pain and stiffness, and had to take medication to help deal with this as well. If that wasn’t enough, Mason also has struggled with Abdominal Migraines and has had to take medications the last 4 years to prevent them. He also struggles with speech, which causes extreme anxiety when he has to read aloud.

He takes time to explain to Mason what he is doing, therefore Mason has never felt nervous. I will never forget when we were leaving after Mason’s first adjustment, he said “Mom, my head feels so light, my neck has never felt this good before!” My husband and I knew in that moment we had to continue coming and so thankful we did!”

“Before starting care at Congruent Life Chiropractic, my daughter had just completed 1st grade and had struggled through. Kindergarten had been tricky as well. Her struggles were OT (fine motor concerns), toe walking (which includes balance and coordination), and confidence (anxiety).

The frustration was horrible as we tried to solve these struggles. As a parent, but also 1st grade teacher, I felt like a failure. I was not successful in helping her and I felt like a bad mom. There were many sleepless nights, lots of worrying and tears. We had tried and were at that time in PT, OT, vision therapy, and intensive math support.

The moment when I realized this was “it” was when I started to see increased fine motor control and a willingness to do reading and crafts (fine motor activities). She was also discharged from vision therapy earlier than predicted. She also began to do much better at OT, PT, and math help!

Now my daughter is thriving in 2nd grade! Her handwriting is legible, she is more social, her balance has increased and there is less time on her toes. Best of all, her confidence is increased. There are few meltdowns and family time is much better. We drove to Florida recently (15 hours) and she was content, relaxed, and happy the whole trip. “I hobbled into CLC with crutches and a knee brace. My orthopedic surgeon said I need major surgery, but my radiographs and radiologist didn’t support it so I decided to look elsewhere. I was swollen, in pain, had to close my business and was frustrated with doctors arguing over my care and not listening to me! “I started chiropractic care due to struggling with fertility issues. It became an issue when I was under a lot of stress, had a drop in my weight, and no longer continued taking my birth control. I went a little over a year without a period. This issue impacted me at a mental and physical level, as I wanted to start a family right after my wedding in January. It also impacted my husband, as my emotions were up and down, which seemed to put a lot of stress and concern on him. It also impacted close family and friends as they knew I was struggling, and would give anything to become a mom. I felt that my work was impacted due to feeling stressed and worried that my dream of becoming a mom was not in my near future.

“My baby daughter was just 6 months old when she got her first ear infection following a cold she caught at daycare. We visited her primary care doctor and she was given antibiotics to kill the infection. As fall turned into winter and colds continued at daycare, my baby was continually sick and on antibiotics for ear infections; five in total. The ear infections caused her pain and misery, and I hated the never ending cycle of antibiotics.
